ABSTRACT

A preliminary checklist of the aroids on urban areas is prepared for Jakarta to Bogor, a lowland urbanized places in Western Java. The checklist has been prepared based on previously published literature and some field trips from 2014 to 2018. Results show that 43 species from 22 genera have been recorded from some areas in these two cities. A significant proportion of exotic species was found, with 23 species or 53.49 percent of total recorded species.  A brief discussion on various habitats with the presence of aroid species is presented. Two Java and surrounding island endemics but presumably abundant have been found, which are the Alocasia flemingiana and Amorphophallus variabilis. Most cultivated species are for ornamental purposes and a few for alternative food sources. A key to all genera is presented.
